Madison Park Renamed After Wilma Chan

AHS spearheaded a campaign and worked with Oakland City Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas to get a resolution to rename Madison Park to Wilma Chan Park. This was supported by community partner organizations, community members (400 signed our petition), as well as by Wilma’s family. On Tuesday, May 3rd, the resolution passed the Oakland City Council unanimously 8-0. Council President Bas co-presented with Julia and Thu to share what the park and Wilma Chan means to the Chinatown community.

Council President + District 2 Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas: “The late Supervisor Chan served Oakland and Alameda County residents for 3+ decades, especially advocating for the wellness of underserved and uninsured communities. She was a fierce champion for children, families, seniors, immigrants, and AAPI neighbors. May we honor Chan’s legacy by continuing to advocate for those whose voices go unheard and strengthen wellness among all our communities.”
