Vinh is a public school educator with 20 years of experience with the Oakland Unified School District as a classroom teacher and school principal. He immigrated to America from Vietnam when he was 5 years old after spending 8 months in a refugee camp in Malaysia and grew up in San Francisco. He received his BA in Integrative Biology from U.C. Berkeley, and his Masters from Harvard Graduate School of Education. As the OUSD Liaison to the Oakland Promise, Vinh works between the Mayor’s Office and Superintendent’s Office leading out parts of the Oakland Promise Initiative, such as the Kindergarten to College (K2C) program which helps families open college savings accounts for all kindergarten students in the Oakland Unified School District and to support a college bound culture starting in our elementary schools.
