Daniel Chao has over 40 years of experience in commercial and investment banking, corporate and project finance, and non-profit management. He worked for seven years with TerraPower, a company formed by Bill Gates to develop new energy technologies for the world. Prior to this, Dr. Chao worked for 20 years with the Bechtel Group, heading up its finance and equity investment departments. He also spent 8 years as a banker in New York City.
Dr. Chao has also been very active in non-profit organizations. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Asian Health Services and The 1990 Institute. He is also currently a member of the Committee of 100, the National Committee for US-China Relations, and the FF fraternity. He has served on the board of trustees at the U.S.-China Business Council; The Head-Royce School in Oakland, CA; the California-Asia Business Council; the Pucheng Microfinance Development Association in Shaanxi, China; and the advisory boards of the US Export-Import Bank and the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy’s International Management Council. Dr. Chao holds a B.A. from Stanford University (Phi Beta Kappa); an M.A., M.A.L.D. and Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University; and an Advanced Professional Certificate (Business) from New York University.
