50 years of community care

Asian Health Services (AHS), founded in 1974 in Oakland Chinatown, provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services to more than 50,000 patients in English and 14 languages. Our approach to well-being focuses on “whole patient health”, which is why besides primary care we go beyond the walls of the clinic to offer community care, including prenatal wellness classes for moms-to-be, IT classes for seniors, and monthly food distribution.

Why is AHS expanding into San Leandro?

With Alameda County having the fastest growing AAPI population in the region, AHS’ expansion into San Leandro meets an increased demand for health care services in language and in culture while providing greater access to medical, dental, and mental health care services. A recent gap analysis survey by the city of San Leandro shows a considerable need for health care and social services in Asian languages.

San Leandro Clinic grand opening

In March 2025, Asian Health Services (AHS) celebrated the official grand opening of the Dental, Wellness, and Teaching Health Center powered by Delta Dental of California and Affiliates. The new clinic in San Leandro increases AHS’ capacity to tackle significant health access challenges through a unique integrated care model combining both dental and behavioral health services under one roof.

This state-of-the-art facility was designed to provide comprehensive care for the community, addressing critical gaps in both dental and behavioral health services for a growing low-income Asian American community in San Leandro.

Thank you to our supporters for making the dental & Wellness clinic campaign a success!

I came to this country with two luggages, and for the 45 years I've lived in America, I've been experiencing the kindness of this society with people who have been helping me along the way. I feel like giving back to those in need within the Asian community.
