Patient Portraits
Patient Portraits is an oral history project and multimedia exhibition that spotlights 12 AHS patients representing the cultural and linguistic diversity of the communities we serve.
The project explores how the patients navigate their experiences coming to America through the lens of cultural identity, public health, and community care. With these deeply personal narratives, we collaborated with artists to amplify the diverse experiences of Asian American communities and underscore the power of having culturally competent community health readily available. We invite viewers to see, listen, and reflect on the joys and struggles these patients experience and get to know them beyond the statistics.
A special thank you to our community partners Cut Fruit Collective for commissioning and curating the artwork and the Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project for providing interpretation and translation support.
